Quick answers.
What is Aviso?
Aviso is a free mobile app that lets trained storm spotters send verified hazard reports directly to the National Weather Service Weather Forecast Office responsible for their location — in under 30 seconds.
Who can use Aviso?
SKYWARN-certified spotters, emergency managers, NWS office staff, and NWS-partnered storm chasers. The pilot prioritizes trained reporters; anyone can join the waitlist.
How much does Aviso cost?
Reporting is free forever for individual spotters and volunteers. Agency features may be offered at cost later, but the core reporting path stays free.
How is Aviso different from calling the NWS or using ham radio?
Aviso structures the report at the source, verifies the location, and delivers it to the responsible NWS office in seconds — no phone tag, no radio net queue, no lost details.
Do I need SKYWARN training to join?
For the pilot we prioritize SKYWARN-trained spotters, but committed observers with a track record are welcome to apply. SKYWARN training is free from the NWS.
